bomdia todos,

yesterday I found a big colony of Genlisea near Cayenne, my city.
can this plant be Genlisea filiformis ? or is it Genlisea pygmaea ?

2009 I found G.filiformis, the plant have been identified by Fernando R.
he said that G.filiformis have a round tip, willst G.pygmaea have a pointed tip...
the plants I found yesterdays looks pretty the same as G.filiformis look like...can someone help me ?

Hi Carlos,

many thanks for your answer !

I asked the same question in germany (I speak german) and received the same answer.
but something is troubleshooting : I never found G.pygmaea down here....and I "discovered" an unknown species, for the second time.

something is going wrong....this is why I ask myself if G.pygmaea do exist here ?

hi all,

ok, now I received a definitive identification, from a german specialist.
this man is about is about to bring out a monograph of the genus
link to it's book is here

and the definitive answer is : the plant is Genlisea pygmaea.....

well, it seems that all the plants names "G.pygmaea" wich are in our collections are in fact G.repens or others !

according to andreas fleischmannn, the caracters to ID G.pygmaea are the following :
rounded spur
glabrous flower stem
upper part of the stem hairy (the area where the flower is)
hairy sepals

he did'nt give me the ID keys for G.filliformis, sorry for this lack of information.

Hi Patrice,

That's definitely not G. pygamea!

The sepals are glabrous (or almost), which is a characteristic of G. filiformis! /psica

All the best,

hi,

many thanks for the interest you show, Paulo. it's very disturbing, I dont know what to think about this plant....
2 different persons give me 2 different identifications, and both persons are persuated of beeing right.

the plants I found have almost glabrous sepals, that is true, but I can only listen to that what people tell me....it would be very helpfull to have a key to identify these plants , or better, a description of both.
did you have any details about how I can source this ?
A.Fleischmann will write a monography about that genus, but until the book is out, many months will pass....

can you help me with the descriptions Paulo ?
many thanks in advance.

Bonjour Patrice,

Andreas, Paulo and I are working together on Genlisea. We're having a bit of trouble with G.pygmaea, this is a very confusing complex of species. What has been previously classified as G.pygmaea in your area may not even be true pygmaea. However I am with Paulo here, this plant you found is definitely not G.pygmaea, it is G.filiformis.

Don't worry, we will convince Andreas! ;)

Best wishes,
Fernando

P.S. You will have to be patient with a correct ID, since we ourselves are still struggling to understand all the variation and how this correlates to all the published taxa.
